  With sydney ross

Sydney is a former college catcher at UNO, where she helped lead the program to back to back Summit League championships and two NCAA Regional appearances. As a key contributor during this championship run, she embraced servant leadership and led by example through her work ethic and team first mindset. 

As a coach, Sydney is passionate about developing the whole athlete. She emphasizes mental training just as physical preparation. Her mission to empower individuals to grow in character and performance on and off the field. 

 

Sydney’s Bio
 

Career Highlights and Accolades Sydney earned multiple honors at Omaha, including NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete and All-League Second Team. She was a consistent force on the Summit League Academic Honor Roll throughout her collegiate career. Senior Year (2023) Sydney dominated behind the plate, starting 45 games and leading the team with a .517 slugging percentage and six home runs. She topped the league with 21 stolen bases and maintained an elite .995 fielding percentage with 353 putouts. Junior Year (2022) Starting 40 games, she led the Mavericks with 16 stolen bases and scored 25 runs. Highlights included a five-game hitting streak and a strong defensive presence behind the plate throughout the season. Sophomore Year (2021) She recorded 22 hits and 14 RBIs while starting 34 games. Sydney showcased her speed with six stolen bases and maintained momentum with an impressive eight-game hitting streak against conference rivals. Freshman Year (2020) Sydney made an immediate impact, leading the Summit League with a .735 slugging percentage and hitting .353. She ranked in the conference top ten for home runs and RBIs during her debut season.

with todd mills

Coach Todd Mills graduated from Iowa State University in 1983 after spending two years wrestling at Buena Vista College. For over 30 years, he managed Better Bodies Fitness Center in Omaha. His passion for softball began in his early 20s, and he competed in men’s slow-pitch softball for more than three decades. Todd’s hitting philosophy is based on matching each student’s physical gifts with their swing, while ensuring the mental approach remains a core part of the training program.

Coach Mills has been a member of the Gretna High School coaching staff since 2014. He has extensive experience coaching youth sports and is a former coach in the Nebraska Gold program. He also serves as a coach and sponsor for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Gretna. Todd is married to Kim Saum-Mills and they have one daughter, Faith.
